Natalie's message to oglers

Image
WHY does Natalie Gulbis have her hand raised in this open palmed gesture? On this site the bleeding obvious is never the right answer so suggesting she is waving to the crowd would be outrageously naive. When Hindu goddesses adopt this open palmed gesture it is called the abhaya pose. It means “without fear” and is all about confidence and offering protection. Who wouldn’t want Natalie protecting them? Others say open palm means open heart. No, we’ve studied this photo intensely and had the sudden realisation of what she is trying to convey, even with that sunny smile: “Dude, stop looking at my chest.” Should have been obvious at first glance.

Lisa's "really good feeling" puts her 11 under

Image
DANISH golfer Lisa Holm Sorensen has equalled the Ladies European Tour all time lowest round with an eleven-under-par 62 on a scorching first day at the SAS Ladies Masters. The 26-year-old Dane posted eleven birdies at Larvik Golfklubb in Norway. The record of eleven-under-par was previously set by England’s Kirsty Taylor during the first round of the 2005 Wales Ladies Championship and then equalled by Swede Nina Reis at last year’s Goteborg Masters at Lycke Golf Club in Sweden. However both courses were par 72s, unlike Larvik, which is a par 73. “It feels great,” Lisa said later. “I actually thought the record was 15. I thought Annika had shot 15-under once. It feels wonderful. The game was great out there today. I didn’t make any mistakes and the few I made I had a really good score anyway. It has been one of those days. “ Lisa put it all down to hard work, mostly her backswing. “I’ve been working hard on my swing over the last couple of months. I’ve been waiting for it all to click...

Anna Rawson wearing no (harem) pants

I feel strangely in tune with Anna Rawson's new GoDaddy .com commercial, just a bit disappointed with lost opportunities . Anna is a new ambassador for the company and the commercial has just had its debut. Writing in her blog Anna gushed: "I’ ve been talking about it for the last few weeks and I am so excited it finally aired. I hope you all liked it!! " I do, but for pete's sake, there's glamorous women and harem costumes and they are just underutilised . In the commercial, the Genie decides to put Anna's commercial companion in a fetching tshirt . If I was in charge of the world and had three wishes, I know who would be wearing the harem costume. There's obviously more to come, we can only hope.

French Style

WE’VE seen and commented before on the amazing ability lady gofers have in controlling golf balls with their mind powers. (Just check out some of the previous posts for confirmation) Here, French lady golfer Jade Schaeffer uses her powers to make the ball dance mid air before her caddy and a tournament crowd. Jade had just won the Ladies German Open Championship at Gut Haeusern near Munich, southern Germany. Obviously the exuberance generated by her win helped Jade to perform this amazing feat. I think the way women so often off-handedly practice little mind control exercises like this is one of the reasons they find it so easy to control the menfolk.Scientists are discovering that whilst most men’s brains are quite a bit larger than the average golf ball, many have about the same cognitive ability as a used Titleist.

Embracing Golf

THIS is lovely lady golfer Paula Creamer and US golfing compatriot Michelle Wie embracing at the eighteenth green during the third round of the Sybase Classic LPGA golf tournament in Clifton, New Jersey, recently. They were tied for fourth place at this stage, so just imagine how happy they would be if they were winning. You don’t often get this sort of thing in men’s golf. You could just picture Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson having a hug if they were joint leaders after the third round of a major tournament – I don’t think. We used to have a dinosaur of a football (rugby league) commentator in Australia who was always spitting chips at the sight of (male) football (soccer) players embracing after scoring a goal. He said it was distasteful, but at the same time he said he didn’t mind seeing the lady tennis players hugging each other after a match. I’m not sure where he was coming from with that, and I don’t know or recall his views on lady golfers embracing, but I’m pretty sure he wo...

South of the Border

IF she were a man, you’d think Norway’s Suzann Pettersen was just a little too excited to be talking with Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa during the final round of the recent LPGA Corona Morelia golf championship in Morelia, Mexico. But she’s not a man and they just don’t make lady golfers like that. Not any more anyway. Still, Lorena has noticed something is up and is checking out exactly what sort of surprise Suzann is hiding in her pocket. Whatever it was, and god forbid if she was keeping a golf ball in there during a golf tournament, it couldn’t have been all that shocking because after sneaking a peek Lorena went on to win the championship.

Back Abreast of the Ladies Golf News

Image
WE have to be upfront. We’ve been away for a little (long) while from ladies golf and can’t offer any reasonable excuse. But just like Natalie Gulbis (pictured) we’re limbering up and we’ll get back in front of things. We’ll be back bigger and better than ever and with so many lovely lady golfers like Natalie to inspire us we can’t go wrong. We won’t be so easily deflated again. Maybe it was just that the previous story with all those golf balls and lingerie was just too much for one (small) mind to cope with all at once. We’ve been out in the back paddock mustering our resources, which is still legal in most countries. But we’re still a bit scratchie and below form, a bit like John Daly in a pair of beige pants. We can’t think of one highly amusing but oh so subtle pun about being back abreast of ladies golf. Never mind, bare with us.
